Fitness Program

Fitness classes and the fitness room are located at the Kernodle Senior center. Various exercise classes are available and geared towards keeping seniors active, fit and healthy. The fitness room requires a paid membership, but contains state-of-the-art fitness equipment and machines. Pickleball and badminton are available for Seniors at Fairchild Community Center gym.

The Fitness Room

To join the fitness room, you must pay the membership fee as well as be trained and certified through the Kernodle Center in the safe operation of the equipment. To receive training and certification, please make an appointment with the fitness coordinator at (336) 222-5135.

Membership Fees

    Resident: $25 per month /  $125 per year
    Non-Resident: $30 per month / $150 per year

Personal Training Option

Offered by Amanda Sommer.
Private 30-minute sessions are $25.
Semi-private (2 people) are $15 per person.

Arthritis Exercise & Balance Program

Mondays & Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 am
For Adults 55+
Cost: $35 for a 10 class punch card
The program includes endurance, flexibility, and strengthening exercises done in chairs or standing beside a chair. This class can improve mobility, balance and range of motion. Call (336) 222-513 for more info and registration.

Body Sculpt

Starting September 12 (year-round)
Mondays & Wednesday from 8:30 - 9:30 am
For Adults 55+
Cost: $35 for 10 class punch card

Use your body weight in addition to bands, medicine balls & dumbbells to strength and sculpt all the major muscles! Classes include core training and stretching. Call (336) 222-5135 to register or more info.

Cost: $40
This class focuses on strength training for those who would like to increase strength, muscular endurance, or tone their body. Benefits of strength training are improved joint function, reduced risk of injury, increased bone density, increased metabolism, improved cardiac function, increased strength & balance. Baseline weigh and BMI may be calculated if desired to see monitor improvements throughout the class. Call (336) 222-5135 to register.

Tai Chi for Fall Prevention & Arthritis

Starting September 16 (for 8 weeks)
Fridays from 1:30 - 2:30 pm
For Adults 55+
Cost: FREE (through a PTRC Title III grant)

Use Tai Chi to learn you to stay active without fear of falling or stressing your joints. Make a commitment to yourself t o start living healthier. The instructor is Rebecca Sickles. Space is limited. Call (336) 222-5135 to register by September 9.

Walk with Ease

Starting October 4 (for 6 weeks)
Tuesdays, Wednesday & Fridays at 9:30 am
For Adults 55+
Cost: FREE (through a grant from NRPA & Arthritis Foundation)
The National Arthritis Foundation Walk with Ease is an exercise program that can reduce pain and improve overall health. Each session includes health related discussions and self-paced group walks. Each class last 1-1.5 hours. Call (336) 222-5135 to register or more info.

UNC Low Back Pain Exercise Class

Starting October 4 (for 4 weeks)
Mondays & Wednesday from 1:00 - 2:00 pm
For Adults 55+
Cost: FREE

Class focuses on relieving low back pain by improving strength and flexibility of back, hips, buttocks, legs, and abs. The exercises are done on a yoga mat, seated in a chair or standing. If you are unable to get on a mat or have any limitations, don't worry! There are modification for each exercise.

Weight Accountability Group (WAGS)

Starting September 14 
Wednesdays from 10:30 - 11:00 am
For Adults 55+
Cost: FREE
WAGs is a support group that is committed to implementing healthy eating and exercise habits. Sessions share information on losing weight, maintaining a healthy weight, fitness and making healthy choices. Call (336) 222-5135 for more info.
