Special Units

The Burlington Police Department offers a variety of special units for the employees to work within during their career. The advantage of having the special units is that the employees have the opportunity to be diversified in areas of law enforcement. The special units offer the employee the opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience in areas other than uniformed patrol. This also benefits the citizens of Burlington in that their needs are better addressed by officers that are specially training in dealing with specific needs. These units allow the employee(s) to work within other divisions of the police department and to become familiar with how those divisions function and to take advantage of the training associated with the special unit that they have been selected to work within. Some of the special units require extensive initial training that can last several weeks, but all of the special units require that the employee receive continual training in their field.

The special units currently offered by the Burlington Police Department are:
K-9 unit
School Resource Officer
Special Response Team
Special Operations (Vice/Narcotics and Community Crime Abatement Team)
Traffic Team
Community Oriented Policing Team (COPS)
