Latent Prints

P: (336) 229-3522

The Identification Division of the Burlington Police Department is staffed by three civilian employees. They are responsible for the classification, searching and filing of inked fingerprint impressions obtained from arrestees. They are all latent print examiners. This means they compare inked impressions to latent fingerprints obtained at a crime scene and determine if the same person made both fingerprints. They also testify in court as to their findings.

Identification personnel are responsible for all evidence collected by the officers. They maintain the evidence in a secure area until it is needed for court. When the evidence is no longer needed, a court order is obtained and the evidence disposed.

Identification personnel also assist with special assignments such as highway interdictions and drug roundups.

The supervisor, Lori Oxendine, can be reached at (336) 229-3522.
