Lifeguard Job Application
Lifeguard Class January '18

This class has prerequisites. Class participants must be able to: * Swim 300 yards without stopping. * Tread water for 2 minutes with hands out of the water. * In under 1 minute and 40 seconds, lifeguard candidates must be able to swim 25 yards and surface dive to a 13ft depth, retrieve a 10lb brick, hold it with both hands while swimming it back 25 yards, and get out of the pool. Additional competencies require good communication, teamwork, listening, and a can-do attitude.
All lifeguarding classes are 29+ hours. Candidates MUST attend all sessions and successfully complete all skills in order to pass. Successful candidates may be recruited for employment with the B-Town Aquatics division of Recreation and Parks.
Lifeguard staff may be required to work nights (until 9pm), openings (at 5am) and some weekends.
Starting pay for city lifeguards is $8.50/hour with an increase during private parties. Opportunities for advancement over the years include swim instructor, head guard, pool manager, lifeguard instructor, and more.
