For ages 55 and older. Matter of Balance is designed to manage concerns of falling through balancing and strengthening exercises. Includes discussions and education to help prevent falls. This 8-week class meets every Thursday. Snacks are provided. Provided free of charge from Title III funding administered by the PTRC.

This class has prerequisites.
Class participants must be able to:
* Swim 300 yards without stopping.
* Tread water for 2 minutes with hands out of the water.
* In under 1 minute and 40 seconds, lifeguard candidates must be able to swim 25 yards and surface dive to a 13ft depth, retrieve a 10lb brick, hold it with both hands while swimming it back 25 yards, and get out of the pool.
Additional competencies require good communication, teamwork, listening, and a can-do attitude.
January 20, 2018, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina at the Clubhouse (temporary indoor archery range)
Burlington Recreation & Parks invites youth to experience basic archery at the Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina’s Clubhouse. Participants will be taken through a lesson promoting safety and archery basics encouraging a focus on performing a proper shot: featuring an introduction to archery, safety on the range, using a string bow, and 11 steps of archery success through the NASP curriculum.
Space is limited; all participants must pre-register and complete a registration form with liability waiver the day of the program. Archery equipment will be provided by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s North Carolina Hunter Education Program through an enhancement federal grant from the Pittman-Roberson Act. Participants may bring a water bottle with their name on it and a healthy snack. Please wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.

1st and 2nd place winners will be selected by local chili experts for cash prizes ($100 Champion & $75 Runner up). Registration is required for this event and must be completed online by January 24th. Contest is limited to 30 participants so register NOW!
