    Celebrate Take a Child Outside Week (TACO) and join us on this easy, relaxing hike along the banks of Old City Lake. The hike is out and back with a total distance of 1.5 miles. Expect rolling, natural surface trail (not stroller-friendly). The hike is open to all ages, but best suited to ages 5+. Kids can make nature bracelets or complete on a nature scavenger hunt along the way.

    Celebrate Take a Child Outside Week (TACO)! We want to help families with children from birth to school age get outside together! We will meet at the TJ Sports Shelter and set out for 1.5 miles over paved greenways and sidewalks (with options for shorter route if needed). This is a 'leave no family behind' walk and all fitness levels and ages are welcome.

    NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PUBLIC TRANSIT ADVISORY COMMISSION SEPTEMBER 27, 2017 Notice is hereby given that the Public Transit Advisory Commission (PTAC) will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 5:30 PM in the Municipal Conference Room located on the lower level of the Municipal Building located at 425 South Lexington Avenue. The PTAC will consider offering a Fare Free Day on Link Transit for the upcoming municipal primary election on October 10, 2017, and municipal general election on November 7, 2017. Staff will also provide a Link Transit operations report.

    This class has prerequisites. Class participants must be able to: * Swim 300 yards without stopping. * Tread water for 2 minutes with hands out of the water. * In under 1 minute and 40 seconds, lifeguard candidates must be able to swim 25 yards and surface dive to a 13ft depth, retrieve a 10lb brick, hold it with both hands while swimming it back 25 yards, and get out of the pool. Additional competencies require good communication, teamwork, listening, and a can-do attitude.

  2. Nature Rocks! A Rock Painting Event for Kids

    Ages: 5 & up Burlington Recreation & Parks invites families to celebrate Take A Child Outside Week with a creative and fun “kindness rocks” painting event in the outdoors at the Civitan Shelter in the Burlington City Park. Rocks will be prepped for painting and materials will be supplied, so just bring your creativity and inspirational messages to decorate your rocks. Leave the rocks for us to seal and finish and come back to join us on Wednesday, October 4th from 4-5pm at the same location and we will set off for a hike and rock planting throughout the City Park! Never heard of “kindness rocks”? This movement is taking off across the nation as a way to brighten another’s day with a kind word, a pat on the back, or a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.
