Burlington Police K-9 Unit Two Burlington Police K-9 teams attended the USPCA Region 2 canine trials in October 2009. Cpl. Long and K-9 Ronnie were awarded 1st place team overall honors. In addition they placed 1st in Obedience and 2nd in Evidence Search. Cpl. Comer and K-9 Sasha finished 3rd place overall honors. In addition they placed 3rd in Agility. This past spring, the department's other 2 teams attended trials where Cpl. Marsh and K-9 Mishka placed 1st in Suspect Search and Cpl. Herndon and K-9 Hasko were awarded the Earl Godwin Award for Top Novice Team. The Burlington Police Department has been selected to host the Fall 2010 Trials.
20-134.4A Unlawful use of mobile telphone for text messaging or electronic mail. December 1, 2009 House Bill 9 will go into effect, making it unlawful to use a mobile telephone for e-mail or text messaging while operating a vehicle on a pubic street or highway or public vehicular area. Sgt. A.S. Isley successfully completes the NCJA Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Certificate Program Sgt. Isley completed the North Carolina Justice Academy program on September 4, 2009 obtaining well over the five hundred hours required to successfully complete the program and is the 106th participant to complete the program since its inception. The Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Certificate Program is designed to recognize the achievement of law enforcement professionals who have dedicated themselves to making the highways safer for our citizens. Upon completion of the program, officers have mastered several important aspects of traffic enforcement and related topics.
