The Ed Thomas Water Treatment Plant (Ed Thomas WTP) was dedicated to city service on August 30, 1950. Surface water from Stoney Creek Reservoir was pumped to the treatment plant. Initially, up to 3 million gallons per day (MGD) could be treated and pumped into the distribution system to provide city residents and businesses with water. The water plant has undergone two expansions in the last 50 years. The current plant capacity is 16 MGD with an average treated volume of 8-10 MGD.
