Child Passenger Safety

Children are extremely important to the Burlington Fire Department.  One of the best ways to assure their safety is to protect children while traveling.  Did you know that 85% of child restraints are improperly installed in vehicles?  This statistic is shocking considering the number of children riding in vehicles today.

The Burlington Fire Department wants to make sure your child is riding safely in a vehicle.  The Headquarters Fire Station downtown is a permanent checking station with nationally certified technicians through Safe Kids Worldwide.  These technicians are trained to teach parents and caregivers the safest way to transport children.

Recall Information

Child restraints are required to undergo testing based on Federal Safety standards.  Even with testing, seats can still have defects.  These defects can range from cosmetic problems to crash test failures.  This is why it is extremely important to submit the registration information when a car seat is purchased.  The registration will be on a self-addressed and stamped card.  Complete the information on the card and drop it in the mail.  The manufacturer will notify you if a problem is discovered and will provide information on how to correct the issue.
