Fitness Program
Fitness classes and the fitness room are located at the Kernodle Senior Center. Various exercise classes are available and geared towards keeping seniors active, fit and healthy. The fitness room requires a paid membership but contains state-of-the-art fitness equipment and machines. Open play, drop-in sports & games, such as table tennis, cornhole, darts and pickleball are also available. Check the current newsletter for details.
The Fitness Room
The fitness room provides members with access to cardio and strength equipment that includes:
- Treadmills
- Ellipticals
- Recumbent Crosstrainers/Bikes
- Weight machine and free weights
A paid membership is required to use the fitness. In addition, all new members must complete an orientation session to be trained in the safe use of the equipment. To schedule an orientation with the fitness coordinator call (336) 222-5135. The fitness room is open to ages 55 and up.
Fitness Room Membership Fees:
- City Resident: $25/month OR $125/year
- Non-City Resident: $30/month OR $150/year.
Fitness Room Hours:
- Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm; 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Dancercise
Fri at 12:00 pm. 6-week class starting July 29. FEE: $21/session (no prorate)
Exercise through easy and fun dance steps. Register by July 22. Registration required. Space is limited.
Gentle Chair Yoga
Thurs at 11:30 am
Designed for those wanting a less vigorous practice. Helps maintain or improve overall flexibility, strength, stamina and balance. The whole class will be seated in a chair. Great class for seniors and those just getting back into fitness or recovering from injury. No previous yoga experience is required. Punch Card $35 - good for 10 classes.
Gentle Yoga
Fri at 10:00 am
Incorporates simple flowing sequences to warm the body and slower-paced movements focusing on alignment, strength, balance and flexibility. Class is done on a mat on the floor. No previous yoga experience is required. Punch Card $35 - good for 10 classes.
SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life)

A very popular class that includes strengthening with weights, balance exercises & endurance activities. Space limited. Punch Card $35 - good for 10 classes.
Healthy Back

These exercises, based on the Meeks method, are designed to improve back health by promoting strength, flexibility, relaxation, and improved posture. Exercises are done on a mat on the floor. Instruction (not assistance) is provided to help those who have not exercised on the floor to get up and down safely. Space limited. Punch Card $35 - good for 10 classes.
Easy Does It

Wanting to become more active? This class is for you! Exercise sitting in a chair or standing & holding the chair for support. Space limited. Punch Card $35 - good for 10 classes.
Beginner Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention

Learn warm-up exercises & 6 basic movements to improve flexibility, strength, balance, & stamina. No previous experience is required. Space limited.
Intermediate Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention

For those who have completed the Beginner Tai Chi Class and feel comfortable with the 6 basic movements. Space limited.
Open Tai Chi

Those who have taken tai chi at the Senior Center previously are welcome to gather and practice with one another. All levels are welcome. This is NOT an instructional session and will be led by participants.
Tone Up!
Next session TBA. FEE: $40 (no prorate)
Strength training for those who would like to increase strength, muscular endurance, or tone their body. Benefits include improved joint function, reduced risk of injury, increased bone density, increased metabolism, improved cardiac function, increased strength & balance. Baseline weight/BMI may be calculated to monitor improvements during the session. Space limited.
Open Play Sports & Games
Table Tennis: Mondays 2:30-3:30 pm, Wednesdays 2:00-3:30 pm and Wednesdays 6:00-8:30 pm
Table Tennis is available at the Kernodle Senior Center for open play.
Darts: Call the Center for available times - 336-222-5135.
Darts available at the Kernodle Senior Center in Fitness Room 1 for open play.
Bocce: Bocce set available for check out during Center hours. A group typically meets on Thursdays at 10:00 am - all are welcome. Bocce courts are available outside the Kernodle Senior Center for open play.
