Development Review

The Development Review Division is responsible for the review of minor development projects and requests within the City of Burlington and it's ETJ (Extraterritorial Jurisdiction). All permitting is processed through the City's online permitting portal, BurlingtonSmart: https://ci-burlington-nc.smartgovcommunity.com/Public/Home. Permits Administered by Inspections with Planning Review:

  • ABC Permits
  • Building Permits – Residential (e.g., additions, new homes, accessory structures)
  • Building Permits – Commercial (e.g., tenant upfits)
