The Procedures Manual contains flow charts for many procedures found within the Planning Department. These charts are for informational purposes only and do not reflect all possible scenarios for specific situations.

Applications for Permits are available through BurlingtonSmart, the City of Burlington's online portal for permits and licenses. BurlingtonSmart allows you to submit applications and track them through the approval process.

MARKUP PLANS & RESUBMITTALS

After an initial review, a plan set may have comments from staff that are needed to be addressed prior to approval. These comments are incorporated into what's called a "markup" set of plans. Once you have viewed this markup set of plans, you can then provide the City with a revised set of plans so that staff can do a follow up review. However, once you are on the BurlingtonSmart portal, it may be a bit challenging to clearly know where to navigate to access both markup plans and how to resubmit revised plans. As such, staff has prepared a series of steps to follow to help you better navigate the BurlingtonSmart portal:
