Explorer Post:
The goal of this Explorer Post shall be to provide as much information and experience in the field of law enforcement and related areas as possible. We hope through a better understanding of and familiarization with law enforcement, we can bring out the best potential in career-minded individuals and strive to make better citizens of all members.
Our purpose is to provide opportunities for young adults in Burlington and surrounding areas to become knowledgeable in the work law enforcement officers are expected to perform. We try to stimulate interest in the career opportunities available in this field. We, also like to provide opportunities for young adults to become involved in police, civic, and recreational activities in association with law enforcement officers.
The Explorers organization coordinates several fundraisers throughout the year. We also strongly encourage our members to complete as many community service hours as possible. These volunteer opportunities can include anything from assisting with our annual blood drive, our continuous collection of newspapers and pet supplies for the animal shelter, and frequently playing the role of “McGruff” the crime-fighting dog at public events. We like to keep our members busy, so we regularly schedule training for them which can include traffic stop maneuvers, building searches, teamwork techniques, and crime scene processing. Membership is simple. Our Post is open to all young people who meet the following criteria:
- Must be between the ages of 14-20
- Must have an interest in law enforcement
- Must maintain at least a C+ average in school
- Must not have a criminal record
