City Park Announcements

The Amusement Area is CLOSED until further notice due to circumstances beyond our control. Updates will be posted as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • The City Park open areas, including the playground, will be open 7 days a week from sun up to sundown.
  • Due to construction in the main parking lot on Main Street, patrons are asked to park at the large lot behind the YMCA and Thataways Youth Center off of Kitchen Street.

Carousel ClosureThe flagship of the Burlington Parks System, City Park offers more than 75 acres of activities for the entire family. It serves as the home of an amusement area, one of only a handful of municipally operated in the state. A fully restored Dentzel Carousel (coming back in 2022) is the highlight of the amusement area. As part of the National Historic Register, the carousel attracts thousands of visitors yearly. Throughout the spring and summer, the park comes alive with events, concert series, and baseball and softball tournaments. The park is located one mile from Downtown Burlington on South Church Street.

Plan Your Visit to City Park

Spend a morning or afternoon... or make a day of it!

Play on the Playground & Visit the Sister Cities Fountain

Slides, swings and benches for the tired parents. Always an easy way to let the kids get out their energy before hopping on the rides! Adjacent to the playground is a beautiful fountain that was donated by our Sister City, Soledad de Graciano Sánchez. Take some time to sit by the water and relax.

Picnic at a Park

A picnic in a park is always a good idea. There are many lush places to spread out a blanket in the shade and have a picnic. If you are planning ahead, reserve one of our nine shelters/gazebos. Many of the shelters are equipped with a grill so fire up the charcoal. Advanced reservations are required for picnic shelters.
