Pet visitation is by appointment. Please use the appointment scheduler to schedule your visit.
STEP 1: View available pets so you know which pets you will want to visit with. Please make note of their names and/or animal identification numbers if possible.
STEP 2: Book a visit using our appointment scheduler, or just stop by!
Pro Tip: Although an appointment is not required for adoption visits, we recommend it, especially if you have a busy schedule. We have a limited number of staff available at any one time, and those with an appointment are prioritized ahead of walk-ins.
THINGS TO KNOW:
- Your pet visitation will be conducted in one of our new private pet visitation rooms, or outdoors in our play yards (dogs only), weather permitting.
- If you already know you want to proceed with adopting a specific pet please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov to get the process started. You can still schedule a visit to meet the pet prior to finalizing the adoption.
- Pets are adopted on a first-come-first-served basis and may be adopted very quickly. Be sure to check the listing of available pets before your appointment for the current status of the pets you are interested in. Pets that are listed as "Available" are currently available for adoption. Those with a status of "Adoption Pending" or "Unavailable" already have been spoken for and are no longer available for adoption. The status of these pets will update back to "Available" if their original placement falls through. The website is automatically updated every hour and displays all pets in our program.
- Some pets are located at the Animal Services Pet Adoption & Resource Center, and some are located off-site in private foster homes. Visitation and adoption of pets in the foster program must be scheduled directly with the foster volunteer since these pets are not at the Animal Services Center. You can email fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov to schedule a visit with or adoption of a pet in foster care.
Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet at BAS!
