Privilege License
Due to recent state legislation eliminating the ability of municipalities to assess privilege license taxes, the City of Burlington has changed its licensing process and schedule.
Existing Businesses:
As of June 30, 2015, businesses will no longer need a license, with the exception of beer/wine privilege license holders.
New Businesses:
At this time, the city will discontinue issuing new privilege licenses.
Zoning and Building requirements still apply to all businesses. Learn more about starting a business in Burlington here.
Exceptions:
Businesses that hold beer/wine privilege or taxi-cab licenses are not affected by the new state legislation and must still hold a license to operate in Burlington.
- Beer/Wine licenses run from May 1 -April 30.
- Taxi Cab business licenses run from July 1 -June 30
- Taxi Cab permits are valid for one year from date of issuance.
- Solicitor-Peddler registration valid for one year from date of issuance

Parking Tickets
Payments for parking tickets may be made at the City of Burlington Collection Office at 237 West Maple Avenue, Burlington NC during the hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday-Friday or by mail to the City of Burlington, P.O. Box 1358, Burlington, NC 27216-1358.
Questions concerning parking tickets should be directed to the City of Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500.
Other Civil Penalties
Payments for Civil Penalties may be made at the City of Burlington Collections Office located at 237 West Maple Avenue during the hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, or by mail to the City of Burlington, P.O. Box 1358, Burlington, NC 27216-1358.
Questions concerning Civil Penalties should be directed to the Department issuing the citation.
