Planning Department

The Planning Department is responsible for the land use management and regulations pertaining to development and growth in the City of Burlington and it's Extraterritorial Jurisdiction. Through daily management involving a range of activities, from issuance of sign permits to long-term envisioning, the Planning Department seeks to maximize the health, safety, and economic well-being of the Burlington citizenry. Unified Development Ordinance (udo)

On July 16, 2019, the City of Burlington adopted a new UDO and it is in effect as of November 1, 2019. The UDO contains the regulations to plan-for, use, and build projects in the City.  These regulations also apply to the Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) of Burlington.
