Assistant Chief Alan Balog is a 17-year veteran of the law enforcement and currently in command of the Operations Bureau. He has previously served in supervisory roles within the Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Professional Standards Divisions of the department. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s Degree in Public Safety Leadership and Administration from Arizona State University. He is a graduate of the 74th Session of the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police and the 445th Session of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. Currently, he serves on the Board of Family Abuse Services of Alamance County and is a member of the Police Executive Research Forum. He was the 2019 North Carolina Police Executive of the Year.
Assistant Chief Balog remains focused on the implementation of evidence-based policing to improve public safety and community trust in the Burlington Police Department, particularly through the prevention of violent crime and drug overdoses.
